Broken Sprinkler Pipes occur for all kinds of reasons. The first and most common reason is poor Sprinkler System Installation. Many times the wrong kind of PVC Glue is used or no primer is used with the glue. The Glue, by itself, doesn't bond very well with the PVC Pipe. It needs primer to bond correctly.
This is one of the worst situations for the home owner. About two years after Sprinkler Installation the Sprinkler System starts to leak at the pipe joints. Get one fixed and soon another pipe connection starts to leak. One Sprinkler leak turns into many.
Tree Roots Break Sprinkler Pipes and cause leaks. When it is hot and dry, tree roots seek out any moisture they can find. Sprinkler Pipes that are damp or are leaking a little, become the target for tree roots. Soon roots have the Sprinkler Pipes in a vise-like grip and they begin to squeeze. This results in more leaks which results in more roots. (and so-on)
