Check this out.  We now install wireless rain/freeze sensors on our New Sprinkler Systems.  If you are away on vacation and it starts to rain while the system is running or about to run, the "WIRELESS RAIN/FREEZE SENSOR" WILL AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF THE SYSTEM FOR YOU.  IF A HEAVY THUNDERSTORM COMES THROUGH EARLY IN THE MORNING WHILE THE SPRINKLER IS RUNNING JUST GO BACK TO SLEEP.  THE SENSOR WILL HANDLE IT!
AND -- IF IT GETS COLD AND YOU FORGET TO TURN OFF YOUR SYSTEM SO THE PIPES CAN DRAIN, THE RAIN/FREEZE SENSOR WILL DO IT FOR YOU.
